VINLens

Terms of Service

Last updated: October 2026. Plain-language summary — this is a lightweight terms page for a phase-1 test site. Have it reviewed by counsel before scaling.

The service

VINLens provides a free vehicle identification number (VIN) decoding tool. Decode data comes from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's public vPIC database.

Acceptable use

Use the service for lawful purposes only. Don't scrape, abuse, or attempt to disrupt the service. VIN lookups are rate-limited to keep the service free for everyone.

Email communications

If you opt in, we'll email your decode summary and occasional follow-ups. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. We use confirmed (double) opt-in.

Accuracy

Decode data is provided as-is from NHTSA. We don't guarantee completeness or accuracy. A VIN decode is not a vehicle history report and is not a substitute for an independent vehicle inspection.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, VINLens isn't liable for decisions you make based on decode results. Always inspect a vehicle independently before buying.

Changes

We may update these terms; continued use of the site means you accept the current version.
